Counting the Omer – Day 13
I know – two days behind. Catching up today!
Barukh ata Adonay, Eloheinu, melekh ha’olam, asher kid’shanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu al sfirat ha-omer.
Blessed are You, Adonay our God, ruler of the universe, who makes us holy with mitzvot and gives us this opportunity to count the Omer.
Today is day thirteen which is one week and six days of the Omer. Hayom yom shlosh-es’re she hem shavua ehad ve shisha yamim laOmer.
Today is Yesod be Gevura, sexuality within strength, intimacy within limits.
Intimacy is not easy to find or to sustain. Our society sets all sorts of limits on it – all sorts of barriers that prevent it from being recognized, celebrated, increased. The best I can do sometimes is to find intimacy within those limits. Sometimes, even that seems overwhelming and what I’m left with is a poor shadow of intimacy, one with all the stuffing taken out of it. It takes strength to shatter the limits, strength to push for connection, for family, for intimacy, even for sexuality, no matter what society is saying. I use that strength to help grow relationships, and to persevere despite any limits in my way.
Today, we are strong enough to be close to those we love, even if we have restrictions to overcome.
